Education

Jerono P. Rotich holds a PhD in Exercise and Sport Science from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, North Carolina, USA; Master of Science in Physical Education and Sports from the State University of New York at Brockport, New York, USA; and Bachelor of Science in Physical Education from Kenyatta University, Nairobi, Kenya.

Experience

Prof. Jerono P. Rotich is a full professor in the Department of Human Performance and Leisure Studies, in the College of Health and Human Science at North Carolina Agricultural &Technical State University in North Carolina, USA. Prof. Rotich came to the United States as an Immigrant Student from Kenya in 1995.

She currently serves as one of the Global Studies certificate faculty at North Carolina A&T State University. She developed and coordinates a Global Understanding course between NCAT and Dalian Maritime University, in Liaoning China and Mahatma Gandhi University in Kerala. India and the University of Dakar in Senegal. She has served as member of the University faculty senate; member of the UNC faculty assembly among others.

Community and International Work

Jerono P. Rotich has established collaboration with several high-profile organizations that have afforded her additional insight on leadership skills and best practices. Some of the leadership positions that she has held include; Interim department Chair, program coordinator for community-based program that focused on addressing health disparities among immigrant and refugee communities, Guilford County commissioner on the Status of women, Youth Center director, Head Coach for two varsity teams, Owner and Executive Director of a community Wellness Organization, and many others. Her strongest assets include collaboration, interpersonal communication, professionalism, integrity and ability to develop, nurture, maintain and sustain partnerships at local, national and international level.

Research

Her research agenda focuses on physical activity, sports and games, obesity, and behavior modification as a viable solution to decreasing health disparities and obesity in African American, immigrant and refugee communities and other minorities communities. She has received funding to develop and implement college and community based physical activity intervention programs. She has done extensive work in community engagement and managing community-based programs among immigrant and refugee communities. She has developed and implemented numerous funded community programs that address health-related disparities that include physical activity, nutrition and healthy lifestyles among undeserved youth, African American, and immigrant and refugee communities. In addition, she has been instrumental in developing implementing and facilitating cross-cultural competency workshops for health care providers, social workers and behavioral health specialist in North Carolina.

Kenya University Project (KUP)

Prof. Jerono Rotich joined KUP in 2016 as a Property Developer and University Founder.

Diaspora University

In the founding of Diaspora University Prof. Jerono Rotich is working on:

  • Establishing the Human Performance and Leisure studies department.
  • Writing Courses and teaching.
  • Integration of Sports and Education.
  • Research and funding.
